If you are a merchant, then it is highly important that you look into merchant compliance. This means that you make sure that you meet PCI compliance requirements – setting up your data security in such a way that all card transactions are protected and the customers are in no danger of having their card details stolen or exposed.

Merchants have to make sure that they meet PCI compliance requirements in order for them to be permitted to use card machines at all, and failure to meet these PCI requirements can result in their card privileges being taken away. This is a huge and serious problem for most merchants which will have vast and profoundly negative implications on their ability to do business. Here we will look at why.

These days most people do not carry cash, or if they do they do not carry much. This is because cash is heavy and impractical and because it can get lost or stolen. At the same time, in order for someone to carry cash, they first have to withdraw cash from their bank accounts and that means that they are taking their money out from their accounts which makes them feel more like they are eating into their finances. You cannot take a few dollars out of a cash machine, and rather you need to take notes of tens or twenty. Thus this all means that if you want to avoid diminishing your funds (which most of us do) the logical step to take is to use your card to make payments rather than to pay for things with cash and have to withdraw a lot to be able to fund this behavior.

Whatever the reason however, the fact remains that not many of us carry cash, and that means that when we come across a potential impulse buy, we will only do so if we have our card on us. There are hundreds of these sorts of purchases – that are just too small and spur of the moment to warrant going and withdrawing a lot of cash, but which you would buy if you had your card on you.

This then is an entire market that you are closed to if you are not offering card payments because you don't meet PCI compliance. The few steps you have to take then to meet the PCI requirements will only cost a little compared to how much you will lose by not having card facilities in place and so it is a very important step to make sure you can offer this.

At the same time though a failure to offer card transactions will simply reflect poorly on your company and make your business seem old fashioned. Because almost everyone offers card transactions these days, those that don't will leave a sour taste in people's mouths. The assumption then is that if they are behind the times in this respect, then perhaps they are also behind in other areas and this can be damaging to a brand.

If you don't achieve PCI Compliance by meeting the PCI requirements then you will not be able to offer card transactions and this will lose you a lot of money while also damaging your reputation. Make sure that this does not happen by visiting the links.
